Instant Tax Solutions Review

Instant Tax Solutions is a tax relief company based in Post Falls, ID. Services offered include Offer in Compromise, Installment Agreements, Innocent Spouse Relief, penalty abatements, Currently Not Collectable status, and tax filing.

Advertising makes unmistakable their pitch: big savings.  They feature a “Tax Savings Calculator,” which would have you believe it can calculate how much money you don’t have to pay the IRS via “IRS Programs.” We have no idea what programs they are referring to because the IRS doesn’t have programs related to tax liability. They also state both average client savings and some monstrous client savings, with the presumed tacit suggestion that this is the norm. Calculating an average client savings number is impossible because the baseline of a tax liability is on assessment, which includes SFRs. (An Audit Reconsideration is a process the IRS uses when a taxpayer contests the Substitute for Returns determination by filing an original, not an amended, delinquent return.) Further, the calculator results page give a blanket savings amount of 22.5% to 27.5%, and they state an average client savings of 43%, which is impossible. That page:

They also have other websites that attempt to focus on niches such as, The site brings up a whole enchilada of legal questions for us, by the way.

On the Instant Tax Solutions homepage, they say: “Unlike other companies in the industry, we treat our customers right, so don’t have to hide our faces or identities behind stock images.”

This is pretty funny because they use stock photography for people that they claim are making “Un-Edited Client Reviews!”

Regarding “Legal Counsel”

If we didn’t know better (but we do know better) we would think this is a law firm. They have Tax Attorney in the main navigation and on that Tax Attorney page they use the term “Tax Relief Law Firm,:, and “how to choose the best attorney.” Their commercial on Youtube states they will “give you honest, ethical, legal counsel that you can trust.” The problem is that Instant Tax Solutions is not a law firm and cannot legally pretend in marketing jargon that they are a law firm, which it appears they are doing. Only an attorney can own a law firm and the listed owner is a CPA. This is dishonest or incompetent.

Important Note: A licensed attorney cannot act in ANY legal capacity for you unless that attorney is employed at a law firm. There is zero attorney-client privilege between you and an attorney working at any type of company, including a tax relief firm unless that firm is, in fact, a legitimate law firm.

When we see a flagrant usage of legal references it’s a huge red flag about potential ethics problems. The other website,, takes them further down this precarious path.

Regarding the client testimonials with photos on Instant Tax Solution’s website, we dislike it when fake testimonials are used. They are using stock photography for their testimonials; they are not real clients. Are the words real? We have to ask.

Instant Tax Solutions gets a good grade for transparency. They do list both ownership and management.

An Enrolled Agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.

Enrolled Agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights. This means they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before.

Instant Tax Solutions is a member of the BBB with an A+ rating. As of March 2022, they only one complaint with the BBB (for the last 3 years). This is a very good sign they have satisfied customers.

Instant Tax Solutions was established in 2008, according to their Secretary of State filing.

We’ve already discussed Instant Tax Solution’s misleading (or illegal) language regarding legal services advertising.

The good news is Instant Tax Solutions has many good reviews out there and not many bad ones. This is important because at the end of the day you have to make customers happy by meeting their expectations. When customer expectations are not met, they like to tell the world about it.

  • In business since 2008
  • Good reviews

  • Heavy emphasis on “savings” and “programs”
  • Lots of “Tax Attorney” language

Since our initial review of Instant Tax Solutions, they have improved their transparency by listing their staff.  We would like to see their Senior Tax Consultants (sales reps) have their E.A. license like much of their other staff.  We still ding them for their heavy reliance on “savings” and their flagrant usage of legal references, but overall think they are worth considering.

As with any tax relief company, if you decide to talk to Instant Tax Solutions about your tax situation, first verify you are talking to a licensed professional, then do not let them offer you “legal advice,” and as always be wary of implied savings.

I had a pretty frustrating time with them. Instant Tax Solutions was not instant in solving things for me. Eventually they got me into a payback with the IRS but it took a while. They said it’s the IRS’s fault. They may be right. I don’t exactly give the IRS the benefit of doubt.

I recently spoke with John, who actually was completely honest with me and actually advised me to not hire a company because of the the likelihood that I could get my taxes down was low based on my income. I completely appreciate his honesty even though he knew I wasn’t going to be coming on. Would very much recommend talking to them about your tax problems.

Melissa and Mark were outstanding in getting my returns filed and working out a reasonable payment plan with IRS.
